ADS Introduction to Forensic Anthropology 2012

Overview

For 2012 Archaeological Development Services Ltd (ADS) has tailored four separate course options for participants ranging from a two day basic Introduction to Human Osteology to a two week intensive Introduction to Forensic Anthropology. These courses have been developed with the aim of providing participants with practical training of the highest professional standard from practising professional archaeologists and Ireland’s leading forensic anthropologist, Laureen Buckley. With over 25 years experience in human skeletal analysis from archaeological contexts from all periods Laureen is currently also an honorary lecturer in the Dept. of Forensic Medicine, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and is regularly consulted by the Gardai and the State Pathologists’ for advice.

These courses will be of interest to many who work in archaeology, including current students of archaeology as well as non-professionals who seek to learn more about this specialised area:

 

Option 1 Two day basic introduction to human osteology 2nd & 3rd July 2012; €250

At the end of this two day module participants will be able to: Name and identify all bones of the human skeleton; Distinguish human bone from the most common animal bones

 

Option 2: One week in-depth introduction to human osteology 2nd-6th July 2012; €575

At the end of this 5 day module participants will be able to: Name and identify all bones of the human skeleton; Distinguish human bone from the most common animal bones;  Determine the sex, approximate age and estimate living stature from complete skeletons; Understand how these techniques are used in forensic contexts

 

Option 3: One week detailed introduction to forensic pathology  9th-13th July 2012; €575

At the end of this 5 day module participants will be able to: Identify changes in bone due to pathological conditions; Identify trauma and evaluate post-mortem versus perimortem changes; Analyse unknown skeletons and produce a biological profile to aid identification

 

Option 4: Two week complete Introduction to Forensic Anthropology 2nd-13th July 2012: €1150. This intensive 10 day course will follow the course outlines for Options 2 & 3 and will provide participants with a comprehensive knowledge of the human skeleton and the information contained within the bones about a persons life.  

 

Eligibility
This specialised osteology course is aimed at archaeology professionals, students of archaeology, anthropology, and related disciplines, or those with relevant experience.

Option 3: 9th-13th July 2012
Option 4: 2nd-13th July 2012
