This position is located at Valley Forge National Historical Park in King of Prussia, PA.  The incumbent serves as a member of the Cultural Resources Division, which has responsibility for the care of the park's museum collection, archive, library and exhibits.  These collections contain over 430,000 items.  The collections principally focus on the 1777-1778 Valley Forge Encampment of the Continental Army during the American Revolution.

 

The incumbent of the position works under the general supervision of a higher level employee and is responsible for recordkeeping, storage and retrieval of artifacts and the control and maintenance of collections and exhibits.

 

Located approximately 20 miles northwest of center city Philadelphia, Valley Forge is the site of the 1777-1778 winter encampment of General George Washington and the Continental Army. The park receives 1.2 million visitors each year and contains about 3,500 acres of forested rolling hills, tall grass meadows, wetlands, and rough lawns. Recreational and cultural opportunities are abundant, including museums, theaters, concerts, fishing, boating, hiking, etc. Valley Forge is located in King of Prussia. King of Prussia is also home of the largest shopping mall of the east coast (the King of Prussia mall). The two-building conglomeration is also arguably America's largest shopping complex at one location.

Incumbent works with museum staff in implementing museum maintenance and housekeeping schedules as well as an integrated pest management plan; performs routine cleaning of objects and building as directed according to established standards within histrocially furnished rooms; identifies and labels objects by matching documentation field labels and notes with objects; helps prepare objects for storage or display; conducts annual inventory of collections; packs and unpacks objects and processes them for storage or display; performs limited cleaning of new objects; performs routine research for catalog records as assigned; assists with the installation, repair, and rehabilitation of exhibits; catalogs identified object groups; verifies, updates, or revises museum record information and enters data into the Department of the Interior Collections Management System.
