This position reports to the National Park Service Intermountain Region (IMR) Regional Director and is responsible for advising the Regional Director on the entire spectrum of tribal, diversity, ethnography and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) program and issues affecting IMR parks. The position guides IMR parks in consultative and working relationships with 130+ tribes on planning and development issues, compliance, resource issues, exhibit and interpretive program. The incumbent has region-wide management, budget and supervisory responsibilities for IMR Indian policy and cultural anthropology (ethnography) programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work varies from sedentary to actively challenging. There is need to hike distances of several miles carrying a backpack in rough terrain at high elevations, and travel in vehicles, river rafts, other boats and aircraft.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Work includes tribal meetings and ceremonies in remote locations; field work includes some wilderness conditions and is subject to extreme terrain variation and inclement weather.

AREA INFORMATION/HOUSING INFORMATION: Lakewood, Colorado, is a suburb west of Denver, population approximately 113,000, located in Jefferson County at an altitude ranging from 5,400 to 6,000 feet. Climate is dry with an average of only 15.14 inches of precipitation. Public transportation is available through RTD (Regional Transportation District). Housing is available on a rental or purchase basis in the area. Denver metropolitan area has excellent medical and recreational facilities, churches, shopping and cultural arts. Education is received from nationally recognized Jefferson County Public School System.
